Our goal is to provide all kids with a chance to learn basic soccer skills in a relaxed and fun environment. During the session, players will be paired with a volunteer soccer “Buddy” to work through fun games and skill activities under the direction of a professional trainer. There are six Saturday sessions during the Spring and Fall seasons, which last approximately one hour. Players will receive a soccer jersey and an End-of-Season award. All players should dress for the weather, bring a water bottle, a ball, shin guards and a parent.

WHAT IS TOPSOCCER?

US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer association volunteers. The program is designed to give any boy or girl with a mental or physical disability the opportunity to learn and play soccer. The goal of US Youth Soccer is to enable the thousands of young athletes with disabilities to become valued and successful members of the US Youth Soccer family.

WHY DO WE NEED TOPSOCCER?

TOPSoccer was formed to perpetuate the US Youth Soccer mission statement, which is, in part, “to foster the physical, mental, and emotional growth and development of America’s youth through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and competition.” There are thousands of children with disabilities who need and can be provided with the opportunity to play soccer through the TOPSoccer program.

WHAT CAN PARENTS EXPECT?

  • A fun and meaningful experience for their child.
  • Games and activities will be adapted to ensure that the child learns at his/her own pace.
  • Practices and games will be organized.
  • The program will improve the overall fitness, self-esteem, and social skills of the child.

FORMS

TOPSoccer players do not have special form requirements except those with Down syndrome. An Atlanto-Axial Instability Certification is required only once for all Down syndrome players. Please bring it to the first session. Please note that a physical is not required, only a doctor’s signature.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

TOPSoccer requires coaches and buddies to work with players.  If you are interested in volunteering to be a part of a great program and rewarding experience, don't hesitate to contact our TOPSOCCER Administrator, Katie Kenny, for more information.  Email: TOPSOCCER@charlottesvillealliancesc.org
